Situation
In future for the management it is no longer important being focused to individual divisions, but to face the responsibility for all activities for the entire enterprise, which assist the improvement of the competition position. The reasons are the fast and ongoing changes of the customer needs and the markets as well as an increasing saturation of the market. The strategic management uses in such a situation the controlling, in order to secure the revenue of the enterprise lastingly, by succeeding adapting in time to the changed conditions. Thus allow developing the own strengths consistently and notice opportunities on the market tightly focused and with low risk. The respective possibilities are in the strategies for specialization, for differentiation or by achieving a leadership in cost and pricing.

The area of responsibility of the controller particularly regarding software projects became therefore more and more complex over time. A new software should not only be transparent during the planning and design phase regarding the costs. Also beyond that characteristic numbers for determination e.g. of the capital net or Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) are to be considered, because this inform about the economic success of a software project.
A majority of the clients expects from software contractors that these can quantify the financial advantages of their products and services. Just a few clients state, they would have "high confidence" referring to the relevant data given by the contractor. Most of the asked clients wish itself more detailed and specific information in this regard.
